Position Overview:  Prepares safe and nutritious meals following specific guidelines, providing oversight of all kitchen functions & staff. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

  1. Plan daily menu in accordance with master menu.
  2. Prepare and serve foods, following menu plan and all sanitation guidelines.
  3. Maintain necessary records
  4. Maintain USDA nutritional requirements for meals.
  5. Assist in training new employees and substitutes.
  6. Present product in an attractive manner, utilizing color, texture and creativity.
  7. Supervise catering to special functions and remote locations.
  8. Assist Food Service Director in ordering food and supplies.
  9. Properly store and maintain any and all foods.
  10. Follow all safety and sanitation guidelines & regulations.
  11. Other duties as assigned

 

Other Job Functions:

 

  1. Ensure required portion control.
  2. Keep current inventory of food and supplies.
  3. Assure that kitchen staff take appropriate breaks according to union contract agreement.

 

Qualifications:

 

Knowledge of:

 

  1. Food preparation in large quantities for public schools.
  2. HAACP sanitary guidelines.
  3. And understanding of food costs and program budget.
  4. Record keeping.
  5. Operation of commercial food preparation equipment.

 

Ability to:

 

  1. Maintain good healthy relationship with students
  2. Work harmoniously and tactfully with fellow employees.
  3. Maintain standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  4. Add, subtract and multiply accurately.
  5. Maintain regular attendance.
  6. Present neat and clean appearance.
  7. Attend training opportunities & workshops.

 

Experience:

 

  1. Prior experience with quantity cooking and baking desired.
  2. Prior experience with management and/or supervision preferred.

 

License:

 

  1. Food Handler's Card
  2. Serve It Safe Certificate
  3. Oregon Driver's License

 

Physical Requirements:

 

In an eight-hour day, employee may

  1. Stand/Walk 5-6 Hours
  2. Drive 1-2 Hours
  3. Sit 3-4 Hours
  4. Stoop/Squat/Bend 1-2 Hours
  5. Lift/Carry 1-2 Hours      Up to a weight of     50 lbs
  6. Climb Stairs Occasionally
  7. Use hands for repetitive motions Frequently
  8. Use feet for repetitive movements Frequently
