Position Overview: Under the general supervision of a building administrator, performs a variety of tasks with major responsibility being instruction and supervision of students. Instruction of students shall include skill development, the expansion of knowledge and developing the ability to reason. Responsibilities include supervision, guidance, discipline, and safety of students. The use of independent judgment and decision making is required in many matters not having established rules, regulations, policies or precedent.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Plans and coordinates the activities of educational assistants and other paraprofessionals as assigned
  2. Identifies the needs of individual students by continuous assessment of their performance and abilities
  3. Uses identified student needs to plan instruction
  4. Prepares and writes instructional plans
  5. Uses a variety of appropriate methods and materials to implement instructional plans
  6. Organizes and manages classroom to create the optimum learning conditions
  7. Applies learning theories to meet the needs of students
  8. Evaluates and reports student progress
  9. Supervises students in and out of the classroom
  10. Initiates, plans, and carries out parent conferences
  11. Initiates and maintains communication with parents and colleagues

 

Other Job Functions:

  1. Participates in in-service and professional development activities.
  2. Attends meetings and serves on committees as assigned or directed (or if individual volunteers).
  3. Sets and carries out goals each year.

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge of:

  1. Current concepts, methods, and procedures of curriculum development and implementation
  2. Laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding instruction
  3. Evaluation techniques
  4. Standards based education
  5. Human development and learning
  6. Behavior management techniques
  7. Communication techniques
  8. Current health and safety procedures and practices

 

Ability to:

  1. Develop appropriate curriculum
  2. Interpret and comply with laws, rules, and policies
  3. Evaluate student needs and progress
  4. Implement accepted principles of instruction
  5. Maintain acceptable student behavior and discipline
  6. Communicate effectively

 

Experience:

  1. Demonstrated competency through college preparation, student teaching, and/or classroom experience, and professional development

 

License:

  1. Current Oregon license with appropriate endorsement(s) in area of assignment

 

Physical Requirements:

In an eight hour day, employee may

  1. Stand/Walk 5-6 Hours
  2. Drive 1-2 Hours
  3. Sit 3-4 Hours
  4. Stoop/Squat/Bend 1-2 Hours
  5. Lift/Carry 1-2 Hours      Up to a weight of     50 lbs
  6. Climb Stairs Occasionally

  8. Use feet for repetitive movements Frequently
